Don’t just learn English…
…Master it!
Forget the classroom. Find your voice.
ActLingo is an evidence-based approach to language learning that uses performance, drama and creative expression as the principal vehicles for developing and mastering English in a way that is fun, interactive and effective.
Imagine learning English through the greatest characters, stories and performances ever written.
Do you want to learn the second conditional for the thousandth time? Or would you prefer to become Wednesday Addams, Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen or Sherlock Holmes.
Do you want to study phrasal verbs? Or would you rather bring a film scene to life or deliver a speech that makes everyone sit up and listen.
What about reading a text about John and Mary’s summer holiday? Or instead, , you could write your own material, create your own characters and develop your own stories. Ones that mean something to you.
And you don't have to be an actor. You don't need experience, special talent or perfect English.
You just need to be willing to give it a go.

Your performance. Your learning. Your voice.
At ActLingo, you choose what interests you. We help you understand it, perform it and make it your own.
You practise independently, record yourself, listen back, experiment and improve. We coach you along the way, giving you the guidance and feedback you need without taking over your learning.
The result isn't simply a piece you've memorised. It's greater confidence, a growing command of English and the ability to express yourself more naturally.
And you'll have something to show for it.
Why drama?
Because words are easier to remember when they mean something…
…When they belong to a character, express an emotion, tell a story or achieve something.
When you learn a monologue, you're not just memorising vocabulary. You're learning how words work together, how they sound, how they feel and how to use them to communicate something.
You listen, imitate, experiment, repeat and perform.
You learn by doing.
The Thinking Behind It All….
ActLingo: What is our pedagogical philosophy?
ActLingo is an evidence-based approach to language learning that uses performance, drama and creative expression as the principal vehicles for developing and mastering English in a way that is fun, interactive and effective.
Building on decades of educational theory which highlights the efficacy of drama-based methodologies in promoting language acquisition and fluency in ways that mirror mother-tongue learning, the ActLingo method delivers English in a way that builds towards spontaneous language production rather than translation from native language to English. In other words, with this approach, learners not only acquire lists of vocabulary and grammatical rules, they build on their language store in a way that can be used in real life spontaneously and naturally, just as we do in our mother-tongues.
Language isn't a subject. It's an operating system.
Imagine the brain as an operating system and all of the subjects as applications you can run on that system. Biology, Maths, Gardening, Engineering, Philosophy all run on that operating system. It’s great. But what happens when we try to load English the same way? The system crashes. We don’t seem to have the same success learning English as we do with our other subjects. Often, we just tell ourselves, ‘I’m not good at languages’. But we are fluent in at least one language…so that can’t be true. What’s really happening.
Let’s return to our computer idea. Why does English keep crashing on us? What if English isn’t an application, but is instead a completely different operating system. What would happen if you tried to launch Mac OS on a Windows PC? That’s right. The system would crash. At ActLingo, we believe that this analogy is a really useful way to think about learning English. We can’t load English on an operating system that is running a different language. We need instead our operating system to run on English. That’s where ActLingo comes in.
Fast, fun and forever.
We want to make learning English something you actually look forward to.
No endless worksheets. No sitting around waiting for your turn. No learning things you'll never use.
Instead, you get to do something interesting, challenging and creative, while developing skills that stay with you.
You can see your progress. You can hear the difference. You can keep your performances and look back at how far you've come.
And every time you learn something new, you have another set of words, expressions and experiences to draw upon.
The aim is not simply to learn enough English to pass an examination.
It's to develop the confidence and ability to use English spontaneously, naturally and creatively, wherever life takes you.
Don't just learn English. Perform it.
